Learning Points

Cognitive

CDT Modules

INSTAT

  • Research skills to suppement our project

  • Allowed us to justify every course of action taken

  • Provided clarity and led our project on the right path

GRPDY

  • Knowledge on how to properly facilitate workshops

  • Could take note of the clients' body language

  • Ensured that nothing was "triggering"

PRJMGT

  • People management: using MBTI and our strengths to delegate work + organisational chart

  • Time management: using gantt chart and a timeline to map out tasks, to ensure that we have sufficient time + buffer

  • Task management: used the RACI matrix to ensure that roles do not overlap, which eliminates confusion. Also ensures that everyone is ‘informed’ and in the loop.

  • ABCD - asset based community development (using the beneficiaries assets to ensure continued and sustainable development and growth)

Affective

Through this project, it has taught me not to take life for granted and to be grateful for all the small things in life. It has also taught me the importance of resilience and never giving up in difficult times.

I learnt the importance of teamwork and having amicable relationships with both my team and our partner organisation.

To treasure the moments and shared experiences we have with our loved ones, and to be intentional in spending time with and expressing our love for them

Gwen

This project taught me the importance of responding empathetically, allowing me to understand how others are feeling and how to respond to situations appropriately.

I used to think that being disabled is the end of the world. However, upon interactions with the beneficiaries and seeing the glimmer of hope in their eyes, I now believe that this is not the case. These taught me to be more hopeful and to implement projects based on the clients’ preferences rather than practicality alone.

Social

Prior Assumptions

  • Did not know a lot about palliative care

  • Thought there were limited services available for palliative care patients and their caregivers

  • Had the presumption that the patients would be greatly affected by their condition

Learning Points

  • Patients remained optimistic and positive despite their conditions

  • Patients showed resilience eventhough they were initially disappointed with their diagnosis

  • Made us realise that these patients were actually very strong and tried their best to become independent.
